Wazz up, Wazz up, Wazz UP!!!

Man, oh man, oh MAN!!! I know it's been since FOREVER, but a lot has happened, so let me get right to it.
First and foremost, I regret to inform that our illustrious drummer, 'The Acrobat' aka Jabari resigned his tenure with our group. A couple of weeks ago he decided to open a new chapter in his life by moving to Phoenix, AZ. Detroit's loss is certainly Phoenix's gain. There was NO animosity whatsoever, Jabari just required a change in locale. We wish Jabari all the best in his future musical endeavors and whenever my organ trio has an opprtunity to perform on the West coast, you can believe that Jabari will be in the fold with us as per usual. In the meanwhile, my contemporary quartet, RYZ is proud to welcome our new drummer, Mr. Ron Otis. He is definitely qualified to step right in and lay down the grooves that has made RYZ famous. My jazz organ trio, Gerard Gibbs & ReORGAN'YZ proudly welcomes Mr. Gene Dunlap to the drummer's throne. He definitely has the experience and the talent to play behind the 'wooden monster' that I have come to know and respect as the Hammond B-3.
In other news, I'm pretty sure that everyone knows by now that Baker's Keyboard Lounge is experiencing a serious financial crisis due to the current state of the economy. A crisis so severe that there is a real possibility that Baker's may have to shut it's doors permanently. However, by God's grace, Baker's remains open, but by no means is the club out of the woods yet, not by a longshot. Baker's is operating on a month-by-month basis. It was for this reason that my organ trio was furloughed a few times from Baker's schedule because of financial problems. I'm mentioning this to let you know that my organ trio will still perform on Wednesdays there, but just check my schedule often because it's not on a regular basis as it once was earlier this year. I know that money is tight everywhere, Lord knows I know. But, for those of you in the Metro Detroit area who can afford to support this Detroit treasure, it would certainly be greatly appreciated. Baker's has proven itself time and time again in being the world's oldest jazz club in the WORLD, not the country, but the WORLD. What's more, Baker's Keyboard Lounge has consistently provided top-notch jazz entertainment to the massess for 75 years. Quite frankly, that means something to me and I hope that it means something to you too.
In other developments, by popular demand, my contemporary jazz quartet has returned to Thursdays at Floods Bar & Grille. We started back in April and the gigs have gone great. I also elected to return to our former name of RYZ. It was the name we started with 18 years ago, so I thought it was the name we should stick with. We're also performing some new music and I have challenged the guys along with myself to continue to expand our repertoire. So, come check us out on Thursdays at Floods, OK??
I'm still on the road with James Carter. As a matter of fact, The James Carter Quintet just completed a 10-day tour of Japan which was great. Coming up, I head to the JVC Jazz Festival in Newport this Sunday, August 9 where The James Carter Organ Trio will be back in action.
On a personal note, August 9 will be my 1st Wedding Anniversary. It's hard to believe that one year ago this Sunday, I took a walk down the aisle. Man, the time just flies!!! You know I had to ask my wife for permission to be away on our anniversary or I was gonna have a permanent residence in the doghouse!!! (smile)LOL But, I am so grateful for my beautiful wife's understanding nature. I will make it up to her as soon as I get back.
